Summary: In partnership with Workflow, art_works curated an immersive pop-up exhibition exploring how a group of Boston-area artists approach the complexity of their surroundings in both urban and natural environments.
About the exhibition: Inspired by urban and natural worlds, the featured artists engaged with transformation, materiality, and perception through diverse practices. Adria Arch's biomorphic works suspended from the ceiling dance and sway, while Cicely Carew fashions tactile celebrations that transcend the immediately perceptible. Alexandra Chiou's dimensional collages of hand-cut paper unfold like bouquets of flowers, and Alison Judd's layered leaves mark the changeable essence of nature and memory. Soyoung L. Kim meshes words and images to probe transformation, while Matt Murphy's shaped canvases ignite a kinesthetic push and pull with their architectural backdrop. Gupi Ranganathan examines continuously fluctuating topologies of space and time inspired by cellular structures, and Michael Zachary's pixelated waterscapes capture the transformation inherent to flowing bodies of water. The exhibition also featured artworks generously donated by artists and galleries to Boston Art Review's writer's fund, with proceeds directly benefiting BAR's mission to facilitate active discourse around contemporary art in Boston.
