Exhibition dates: May 30 - July 1, 2021
Location: Community Room at The Commons, 46 Bradford Street, Provincetown, MA
Artist: Cicely Carew
Partner: The Commons

About the exhibition: During the era of isolating lockdowns and social distancing in 2020, many sought comfort in the hope that we would gather together again. Celebration comprised a site-responsive installation embodying hope by highlighting The Commons as a space bringing people together. As the possibility of gathering returned to our lives, the exhibition reminded viewers of the power of togetherness and the fundamental joy of being in community.

About the artist: Cicely Carew was born in Los Angeles and holds a BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from Lesley Art + Design in Cambridge, where she now lives. Carew's practice manifests a unique abstract visual language across paintings, drawings, collages, and assemblages, bound together by a belief in the transformative power of Joy as both visual aesthetic and personal attitude. Her work has been featured in public art installations around Boston, including a 2021 major project in the Prudential Center commissioned by Now + There.
