About the exhibition: During the era of isolating lockdowns and social distancing in 2020, many sought comfort in the hope that we would one day gather again. Cicely Carew’s site-responsive installation, Celebration, embodied this sentiment by highlighting The Commons as a space that brings people together. As the possibility of in-person connection returned to our lives, the exhibition reminded viewers of the power of togetherness and the fundamental joy of being in community.

About the artist: Cicely Carew was born in Los Angeles and holds a BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from Lesley Art + Design in Cambridge, where she now lives. Carew's practice manifests a unique abstract visual language across paintings, drawings, collages, and assemblages, bound together by a belief in the transformative power of Joy as both a visual aesthetic and a personal attitude.
